Is juicing good for you? This question really comes in many people’s mind, as they claim that you lose lot of fibers in juicing, so it’s not beneficial. But, if you ask me, removing fiber is the thing, which has a lot to do with the benefits of juicing.
Benefits of juicing-There Are Several benefits of juicing-
There is very less energy needed to digest juice, as it already partially digested and all the fibers are removed. In this way, it’s very beneficial for the people with bad digestion.
2.Dose of vibrant energy-
Juices are packed with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and enzymes, which you get in large doses in juices, as when fibers are removed, this is what left in juice. When your body has abundance of nutrients it needs, which are readily absorbed and utilized, you instantly get that boost of energy. Juice also help to alkalize your body, another reason to feel more energetic.
Juices are packed with high nutrients. You are always told to consume lots of fruits and vegetables each day. But have you ever calculated how much you actually consume? This is where juice is really beneficial as you don’t have to eat so much to get all the nutrients and we can consume a lot more variety in our juice without overloading our digestive system. You just drink one glass of juice and you know how much veggies and fruits nutrients it contains.
4. Quick nutrient absorption-
When you drink juice, you don’t have any fiber to deal with, and this is why it absorbs quickly in your system. It takes only 15 seconds to absorb all the nutrients from the juice. Could anything else be this quick? Highly beneficial for the people with weak digestive system and better than smoothies for them as smoothies still has fibers which needs to be digested.

Unhealthy lifestyle, poor diet and lack of exercise accumulates lots of toxins in your body. Juicing is a great way to get rid of those toxins. Since juice doesn’t need to be digested, it gives rest to our digestive system, and as it is loaded with nutrients, it nourishes our body and flushes out the toxin. When we juice lot of greens, we get lot of chlorophyll, which is a powerful detoxifier and helps to cleanse liver, cleanse blood and remove toxins from our body, a reason you get glowing skin when consuming juice.

Why am I gaining weight with juicing?
So, you are juicing now, and you want to lose weight. But wait…you are not losing it!!! Instead, you are gaining weight and you are feeling sick!! what’s going on wrong here? There might be few mistakes you are making while juicing-
1. Juicing too much fruits-
If you are juicing too many fruits then you are juicing too much sugar. Blend vegetables with fruits or juice just vegetables alone. Opt for greens and more watery vegetables like lemon, cucumber, celery etc. Juices with high fruit content should be taken as meal replacement, that too sometimes only, as they are very calorie dense, and it can contain up to 400 calories. Adding just a bit of sweet fruit is enough to satisfy your taste buds.
2. Your juice is dead-
Either you are not drinking freshly squeezed juice or you drinking store brought juice. Your juice starts oxidizing soon after its enzymes and vitamins are exposed to air after being squeezed. Fresh juice has live enzymes to help with digestion and fat burn. Try to finish your juice within the time limit depending on your juicer type.
3. You are juice fasting for too long-
Juices are loaded with vitamins and minerals, but they lack two macronutrients- protein and fat and fibers too, which are essential for your body. Juices don’t have required amount of them and then your metabolism slows down and causes weight gain. Don’t use juices as your long-term meal replacement. rather use it as your health supplement.
4. Drinking juice on a full stomach-
Wait at least two hours after a meal. If taking green or mostly greens, then can be taken half hour or so before a meal or between meals without much concern of weight gain.
5. You are not juicing skins peels and rinds –
Fruits and vegetable skins, peels and rind provide beneficial fiber that aids digestion, feeds your healthy gut bacteria and slows the absorption of the sugar in the blood. They are really good for your gut health. Try to use whole fruits and vegetables.
6. Juicing same fruits and veggies everyday –
Juicing same stuff everyday for a prolonged period, not only will keep you deprived of varied nutrition advantage of juicing but overdoing it can also expose you to the risk of alkaloids and phytotoxins and can cause inflammation in your gut.
7. You are not drinking enough juice-
You need enough vitamin and minerals to burn fat in your body. If you are not drinking enough juice, you are not getting enough minerals and vitamins to burn the fat.
8. Healthy fat-
Adding some healthy fat like coconut oil or avocado will slow the abortion of sugar in to blood stream and will ensure the abortion of fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K in your body, which you will lose if you don’t have healthy fat content in your juice.
Why you feel bloated with juicing?
There could be two reasons if you feel bloated with juices. Either you taking it too close to meals or some veggies or fruits combinations in juice not suiting you. If you eat food right after your juice, juice won’t be digested properly and taking after can delay food digestion and cause digestive problems. It can cause indigestion; occasional heart burn and your body won’t absorb all the nutrients from it.
Are bottled and fresh juice the same?
This question always arises, whether bottled juices are equally good? I call bottled juice dead juice. Fresh juices have live enzymes in it, which bottle juices usually lack. Then to kill harmful bacteria, they often pasteurize juice, which actually kill lot of nutrients and enzymes in the juice, if not all. Sometimes they even add preservatives to it. Usually juices have very short life, but bottle juices have longer self-life, which self explains its quality. But some processed juices, too have high levels of anti-oxidant, and when it comes to tomato, lycopene is more available in processed juice.
Which juicer to use?
When you juicing, one thing you need to worry about is, it’s oxidation and oxidation starts as soon as you start making juice, as cells walls of fruits and vegetables are broken, exposing them to air. But how quickly your juice will oxidize, a lot depends on what type of juicer you are using. The cheaper the juicer more oxidation process will take place due to the speed and heat it produces. There are mainly three types of juicers-
1- Centrifugal force juicers- It’s good if you consume juices in 15 minutes, as they are fast running machines and they produce some heat and friction, that damage lot of nutrients and cause oxidation. If you store it in refrigerator, the taste will start changing in 8 hours. So, aim to finish in 12 hours maximum.
2- Masticating juicers- Fresh juice should be consumed in 5-6 hours, but if you store them, they can last for 48 hours, as these juicers create less heat, causing less oxidation, and they extract more juice than centrifugal force juicers.
3- Triturating juicers- You can make a day’s worth juice with this juicer, and you can store juice for 3 days. These juicers are great for juicing herbs or leafy greens.
Tips on storing juice
There are few rules to store the juice to reduce the oxidation-
1- Two things are important to store the juice, temperature and light. It should be stored in dark and cool place to reduce the exposure to light and heat to avoid oxidation. So, storing them in refrigerator is very important.
2- It should be stored in an air tight container to avoid them in getting contact with air and it’s better to be filled tightly to the very top.
3- Always store juice in a glass container.
4- Adding back some fibers to juices increases its storage life, as fibers prevent further oxidation. The reason why smoothies last longer.
5- Adding citrus food like lemon or oranges help them stay fresh longer, as vitamin C prevents oxidation.
6- Cabbage juice does not last long. So, it should be consumed right after making it.
7- Another thing to keep in mind is that higher the sugar content of juice, higher chances it has to get spoiled faster.
Tips on starting juicing
If you want to start juicing, here are few tips to help you –
1- Both fruits and veggies are good for juicing, but vegetables are more beneficial. So, take 80% vegetables, and 20% fruits for juicing.

Fruits and vegetable skins, peels and rind also provide beneficial fiber that aids digestion, feeds your healthy gut bacteria and slows the absorption of the sugar in the blood
7- Don’t remove white layer from citrus fruits under the peel, called pith, which coats the fruit, as it contains many nutrients.
8- Wash your produce properly.
9- Add citrus to aid digestion and keep juices fresh for longer.

What should I do with my leftover pulp?
Many people feel there is lot of wastage with juicing. But you can use that leftover pulp too, in many ways –
1 – Add some fiber back in your juice to get some fiber and to prevent it from oxidizing.
2 – You can make vegetable broth or soup with left over pulp.
3 – Add it in to your smoothie.
4 – Sneak it in to your muffins, pancakes, cookies or hummus.
5 – Make compost with it or feed to the worms in your garden.
